Palestinian refugee youth at the Palestinian Chess Forum in Shatila camp, Beirut

At the Palestinian Chess Forum in Shatila refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon, 72 Palestinian refugee children learn to play chess — and about the history and culture of Palestine.

For the Palestinian Sports Network, Ahmad Al-Laheeb interviews children at the Forum as well as it’s director, Mahmoud Hashem, with a special message for people around the world who stand in solidarity with Palestine.

In 1982, the camp was the site of the infamous Sabra and Shatila massacre carried out by fascist Phalangists overseen by invading Zionist occupation soldiers, and today, is one of the most impoverished and marginalized Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
